To Serve Man…

Screen shot 2014-02-10 at 10.28.20 AMI’ve been cleaning like crazy.  Yesterday I figured out how to dislodge windows.  A triumph in bug carcass and gecko poop eradication. Today, more windows and tidying up guest quarters.  Now the big question is… what to make for dinner tomorrow night?

James is sensitive to legumes, beans, dairy, beef, and gluten. He is also not eating nightshades; potatoes, peppers, eggplant, pimentos, tomatoes and paprika.  I don’t eat processed grains or sugar.  We have two vegetarian/vegan-ish woofers.  Lately we’ve mostly been alternating big salads (no tomatoes) every other day with stir fry and rice, millet, and quinoa. Plus some chicken on the side.  Pretty healthy and easy and predictable.  Pretty tasty, too.

I’d like to do something special though, while we have company.  I make Magic Mountain Pesto with our avocados, macadamia nuts and basil with olive brine and our limes.  No cheese.  But I serve grated cheese on the side and two kinds of pasta; brown rice and regular.  It’s delicious. Also good, my Hawaiian pancakes made with our papayas and macadamia nuts, and local breadfruit. However, I don’t know if my friends like pesto or if they will be weirded out by the pancakes.  I make the pancakes for special occasions, one of which is Christmas.

My friends been traveling and have had horrible weather in their hometown, so right now, I’m just hoping they can fly out tomorrow without any delays. Just to play it safe, Tuesday night it will probably be the stir fry with chicken on the side. Then we’ll see what’s on the menu for the rest of the week, and how native they are willing (and able) to go.

  1. Haha, Apparently mom typed out a long and laughing/loving reply and it got eaten by cyberspace lol. She was showing me what you guys had said on your back&forth via Facebook. You guys were both typing back&forth at the same time and she’s just using the little window on her phone. So when she just now scrolled all the way to the beginning for me to see because I had just finished reading the blog and went to read her comment, which subsequently had vanished. I saw the thing about the tickets and space, she had not seen that part. You guys were typing at the same time and she had to keep hitting screen saver because the screen kept going black. It’s a terrifying comedy watching her try to get things done on this phone. Lol. She’s still flailing around the room. In an apparent fit of gratitude and love. After we have a little chamomile tea, we’ll have a little talk. P.s. the post was brilliant and we’re still laughing. Love to all and everything sounds delicious.
